The Earth Security Group and Sustainable Rice Platform have created a strategic partnership to launch a new report entitled “Financing Sustainable Rice for a Secure Future: Innovative Finance Partnerships for Climate Mitigation and Adaptation”. The NAMA Facility’s Thai Rice NAMA Support Project features in the report and explores how the Support Project works with farmers in Thailand to adopt climate-smart practices, simultaneously reducing emissions and enhancing the farmers’ business model.

This report will be launched and discussed at a COP25 event “Feeding 3.5 Billion: Innovative Finance for Climate-Smart Rice” hosted at the GCF+GEF Pavilion from 3:15-4:45pm on 6 December 2019. The event will feature an expert panel and explore how finance is working to both improve and reduce emissions in the rice sector.

Details of the report include “financing blueprints” to finance the rice sector’s climate-smart, sustainable transition. The report also outlines some recommendations, including:

  • A rice bond to unlock capital for sustainable value chains;
  • A digital finance platform to increase access to bundled financial services for smallholders; and
  • A climate finance blended fund to use climate finance strategically to attract private investment.

Don’t miss the event, the report or the NAMA Facility’s Thai Rice NAMA Support Project.
