On 23 July 2018, the NAMA Support Project Sustainable Urban Transport Programme Indonesia (SUTRI NAMA) and its project component Indonesian Bus Rapid Transit Corridor Development Project (INDOBUS), together with the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation (MoT), organized a planning and coordination meeting to share the project’s Plan of Operation (PoO) and collect feedback from other relevant ministries regarding the implementation of these projects.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS), Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Public Works and Housing and Ministry of Home Affairs. Mr. Martin Stottele from SECO Indonesia provided opening remarks on behalf of the Swiss Government as a donor of the INDOBUS project. Mr. Ikhwan Hakim, Director of Transportation at BAPPENAS, reaffirmed their commitment to promoting sustainable urban transport development by developing a policy and budget framework in the upcoming National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020-2024. Ms. Zanariah from the Ministry of Home Affairs provided support for the implementation of SUTRI NAMA, and in particular coordinating vertical institutional arrangements between national and sub-national governments. In his opening speech Mr. Djoko Sasono, MoT Secretary General, highlighted the importance of public transport and provided support and commitment from the MoT for the implementation of SUTRI NAMA and INDOBUS projects. He later added that for the upcoming 2020-2024 period, the MoT aims to re-establish a dedicated department for urban transport in order to ensure that policy and budget frameworks for the implementation of sustainable urban transport will be available.

During the discussion session, participants agreed to provide joint support for the implementation of the projects’ PoOs, including their steering structures, which were in principle agreed upon and will be adjusted to incorporate input from participants. The meeting was concluded by endorsing SUTRI NAMA and INDOBUS’s PoOs, which will be presented at the steering committee meeting for final approval.
