St. Vincent and the Grenadines Minister of Finance Camillo Gonsalves opening the climate finance workshop
The NAMA Facility joined the UNDP Japan-Caribbean Climate Change Partnership Climate Finance Workshop this week, held in Kingstown, St Vincent and the Grenadines. Also in attendance were dozens of country representatives from nine Caribbean countries, as well as Japan, UNDP and other development partners.
The workshop was intended to support Caribbean countries in the development of concept notes based on their nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs). The concept notes were then presented to development partners in attendance. The initiatives was designed to support Caribbean countries in their efforts to meet the increasing challenges posed by climate change.
Also in attendance was Dr. Sören David, head of the NAMA Facility’s Technical Support Unit, who said of the event, “I am grateful to witness the continued development of and support for NAMAs, especially here in the SIDS [small island development state] context. It is crucial that the international climate finance community supports these initiatives, and the NAMA Facility is ready and willing to consider these countries and their NAMAs for support.”
The Caribbean is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The NAMA Facility stands ready to support countries across the Caribbean and the wider SIDS context on their paths toward low-carbon development.
