Today, the UK, Germany, and the European Commission announced the intention to commit up to €85m to the NAMA Facility to launch a new, larger fifth Call for Proposals.

Delivering successfully since 2012, the NAMA Facility has a strong track record in attracting and supporting innovative and transformational mitigation projects. This new funding reinforces the continued important role the NAMA Facility has in inspiring ambitious action on climate in developing countries and helping to keep global temperature rises to well below 2 degrees. Denmark is also a donor to the NAMA Facility.

5th Call for Proposals now open

The 5th Call for Proposals of the NAMA Facility has been launched on 13 November 2017 and will run until 15 March 2018 (3 pm CEST/GMT+2). The UK, Germany and the European Commission intend to contribute additional funding of up to EUR 85 million for this Call. The NAMA Facility will continue to support developing countries and emerging economies in implementing the most ambitious nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs) with a high potential for transformational change towards a low-carbon future.

All relevant application documents are now available.

Founded in 2012, the NAMA Facility Donors – the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate (EFKM) and the European Commission – made available through the Facility more than EUR 260 million since its inception. The Donors have renewed their commitment to providing financial support to developing countries and emerging economies that show leadership in tackling climate change and that want to implement transformational country-led NAMAs (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions) within the existing global mitigation architecture. The most ambitious projects are selected in annual Call for Proposals. The current portfolio comprises 20 projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America which are receiving support from the NAMA Facility.
