A second call for projects was announced during COP 19 in Warsaw
After the successful completion of the first call and thanks to the overwhelmingly positive response to the new initiative, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) and the UK Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) decided to make additional funds available for a second call to be held during 2014.
In total, additional funds of EUR 50 million will be available to fund implementation of NAMA Support Projects during the second call of the NAMA Facility.
Based on the experience of the first call, it is quite clear that additional funding is needed for the implementation of NAMAs. More and more countries are preparing their NAMAs, making use of readiness funding and investing national resources in the preparatory activities. Over time, additional NAMAs will leave the readiness phase and to start implementing their projects. The NAMA Facility aims to facilitate the implementation of NAMAs by addressing a funding gap in international climate finance. At the same time the NAMA Facility is looking for ambitious activities that have the potential to transform the respective sector and contribute to the goal of achieving a low-carbon development pathway.
The second call will take place in mid-2014.
