Mexico national development bank, NAFIN, and GIZ Mexico sign agreement to support SMEs investing in energy efficiency measures

On Monday, 24 October, 2022, Nacional Financiera (NAFIN) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH signed an implementation agreement for the financial component of the NAMA Support Project (NSP), Energy Efficiency in Small and Medium Enterprises. Representative of the British Embassy in Mexico, representatives of Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), representatives of Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) and the head of the Technical Support Unit (TSU), which manages the NAMA Facility portfolio, also attended the solemnity. 

The cooperation will facilitate the adoption of more complex energy efficiency measures by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) around the country. Increasing the dissemination of energy efficiency technology will support greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions target within the context of the Paris Agreement. The cumulative mitigation will be 747,229 tCO2e at the end of project. 

The NAMA Facility’s contribution to the financial cooperation component of the NSP Energy Efficiency in Small and Medium Enterprises amounts to EUR 9.5 million and will promote the development of sustainable technology with potential support from other donors and financial institutions.

The NAMA Facility is a joint initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), UK Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ), the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities (KEFM), the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the European Union and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF).
