Mitigation Action Facility at the Regional Practitioners Forum for SIDS in Mauritius

The Mitigation Action Facility was represented at the Regional Practitioners Forum for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) on Advancing NDC Implementation Readiness, held in February 2026 in Ébène, Mauritius. The event brought together practitioners, policymakers and international partners to accelerate implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), with a particular focus on NDC 3.0.
The forum aimed to:
- Strengthen knowledge exchange and collaboration across SIDS
- Advance understanding of NDC implementation and finance
- Identify innovative mechanisms to unlock climate finance
- Develop tailored solutions through peer learning and international expertise
As financing remains a key bottleneck for ambitious climate action, the Mitigation Action Facility contributed its expertise on structuring sectoral transformation programmes and accessing international climate finance.

Financing sustainable energy and green skills
During the forum, the Technical Support Unit (TSU) advisor Juan David Jaramillo Salamanca facilitated a breakout session on behalf of the Mitigation Action Facility titled: “Financing Sustainable Energy and Green Skills: An experience in international cooperation from Mauritius”. The Mauritius – Energy Efficiency project (represented by Vedprakash Auckaloo, Executive Director, Capital Asset Management (CAM) Mauritius, and Ziyaad Toofany, Senior Engineer, Energy Efficiency Management Office (EEMO) Mauritius) joined this breakout session to share their experience in developing a Mitigation Action Facility project.
The session:
- Raised awareness of financing pathways for sustainable energy and green skills development
- Shared insights on turning NDC priorities into bankable project concepts
- Identified practitioners’ needs in mitigation project development
- Provided guidance on preparing projects for international donors
Drawing on Mauritius’ experience – including contributions from the EEMO and CAM – the session demonstrated how SIDS can access international climate finance to support long-term energy sector transformation and capacity development.

During the opening ceremony, the German Ambassador Oliver Krönich highlighted:
“…the Mitigation Action Facility as a valuable climate finance mechanism and supporter of the forum, underlining the importance of strong financial partnerships in scaling climate ambition.”
By engaging directly with NDC practitioners, the Mitigation Action Facility continues to strengthen its understanding of country needs while supporting SIDS in transforming climate ambition into investment-ready action.
