Cabo Verde Electric Vehicles project receives Special International Prize for Electric Mobility Promotion

On 9 May 2025, the Cabo Verde Electric Vehicles project, supported by the Mitigation Action Facility, received the Special International Prize at the 5th International Mobility Awards ceremony in Madrid, Spain. The project, formally titled the Project to Promote Electric Mobility in Cabo Verde (ProMEC), aims to transform the country’s transport sector through the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
The event was organised by Empresas para la Mobilidad Sostenible, with support from the Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, the CONAMA Foundation, and the Royal Academy of Engineering.
The International Mobility Awards recognise good practices and innovative solutions in the mobility sector that contribute positively to the environment and enhance quality of life. ProMEC was honoured for its tangible contribution to the energy transition and the advancement of sustainable mobility in Cabo Verde.

Over the past three years, ProMEC has promoted the use of electric vehicles through a rebate programme, helping to reduce environmental impacts and strengthening Cabo Verde’s energy independence. The initiative has also contributed to building the necessary infrastructure for clean, electric mobility nationwide.
According to a news release from Cabo Verde’s Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Energy, the selection was made by an independent jury composed of sector experts, who highlighted the project’s tangible impact in promoting electric mobility and strengthening the infrastructure for sustainable transport across the country.
ProMEC now joins a distinguished group of internationally recognised public and private sector initiatives driving inclusive, efficient, and low-emissions mobility solutions (see full list of awardees on PREMIADOS – Empresas por la Movilidad Sostenible).
The award was received on behalf of the Government of Cabo Verde by the Cape Verdean Ambassador to Spain, Mr. Eduardo Silva.
