Bilateral meetings strengthen partnerships and project pipelines at SB62

Bonn, 17-23 June 2025 – In parallel to the joint networking event with the NDC Partnership, the Mitigation Action Facility engaged in several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UNFCCC’s 62nd Subsidiary Bodies (SB62) sessions to strengthen dialogue with key institutional and country partners.
Throughout the week, Rosa met with representatives from Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Companhia de Água e Esgoto do Ceará (CAGECE), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Instituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria (ICU), CARE Deutschland, Support for Strengthening Development Aid (ASRAD), United Nations University (UNU), and German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation.
Insights into the bilateral meetings
The Facility’s Lead for Strategic Partnerships, Rosa-Stella Mbulu, met with representatives from CAGECE to discuss their previous project submission, which advanced to the Outline Phase during the 2024 Call for Projects. Beatriz Azevêdo de Araújo (Environmental Lawyer) and Thiago Martins Dantas (Research and Innovation Management Assistant) emphasised how alignment with the Mitigation Action Facility helped elevate the decarbonisation of the wastewater treatment sub-sector within Brazil’s national policy agenda. CAGECE expressed interest in resubmitting an enhanced version of their proposal for the upcoming 2026 call and highlighted the positive impact of the Facility’s support.

On 20 June, a bilateral exchange with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) provided an opportunity to reflect on ongoing collaboration. GGGI, currently advancing three projects in the Detailed Preparation Phase (DPP), was represented by Ingvild Solvang (Deputy Director and Head of the Climate Action and Inclusive Development Unit, IPSD) and Nicholas Simon Taylor (Senior Officer, IPSD). The team acknowledged the value of regular coordination calls with Desk Officers and the constructive, structured feedback provided throughout the DPP process.
Both Cagece and GGGI also attended the “Connect & Co-Create” networking event and expressed appreciation for its engaging and solutions-oriented format, which they found highly relevant and supportive of their ongoing work.
These bilateral exchanges form part of the Mitigation Action Facility’s continuous engagement efforts, contributing to stronger project pipelines, improved alignment with national priorities, and enhanced support for high-impact mitigation actions.
