The Regional Forum for Practitioners in SIDS on Advancing NDC Implementation Readiness
The Government of the Republic of Mauritius hosted a three-day regional peer-to-peer exchange on NDC Implementation Readiness. The forum focused strongly on climate finance mechanisms and aimed to:
- Knowledge exchange: Provide a strategic platform for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to connect, collaborate and co-develop effective strategies for NDC 3.0 implementation, while sharing lessons learned across regions.
- NDC implementation and finance: Accelerate NDC implementation while exploring approaches to unlock the financial resources required.
- Tailored solutions: Facilitate group discussions to develop solutions reflecting shared vulnerabilities, development pathways and resilience priorities.
- Leverage international expertise to identify innovative financing mechanisms and improve access to climate finance.
The forum brought together government representatives, national public entities, international organisations and private sector stakeholders. Discussions covered a wide range of topics related to NDC implementation, including adaptation and resilience, programmatic approaches, blended climate finance, private sector engagement, Article 6 and carbon markets, renewable energy, sustainable mobility, nature-based solutions, and cross-cutting themes such as gender, youth and vulnerable groups.
The Mitigation Action Facility participated in the forum and contributed its expertise on accessing international climate finance and developing sectoral transformation programmes. During the event, a Technical Support Unit advisor facilitated a breakout session on financing sustainable energy and green skills, together with representatives of the Mauritius – Energy Efficiency project.
