Mitigation Action Facility Board

The Mitigation Action Facility is a joint initiative of the Federal German Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities (KEFM), the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the European Union, and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF). 

The Mitigation Action Facility is governed by a Board comprising representatives of our funding partners, who provide strategic direction, policy guidance, and project selection oversight.

Technical Support Unit (TSU)

The TSU is the operational heart of the Mitigation Action Facility, serving as secretariat and portfolio manager. It manages the Calls for Projects, steers assessments, and oversees monitoring, evaluation and learning activities. The team brings together advisors with expertise across energy, transport, industry, finance, gender equality, communications, and more.

Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee advises the Board of the Mitigation Action Facility on strategic matters and contributes to strengthening the Mitigation Action Facility’s political recognition.

Comprising leaders in climate policy, green finance, and sustainability from diverse professional and geographical backgrounds, the Committee was established in 2023.

Dr. Barbara Buchner is Global Managing Director of Climate Policy Initiative. Named one of the 20 most influential women in climate change, she advises leaders worldwide on climate, renewable energy, and sustainable land-use investments.

Martin Ewald is the founder of Climate Action Investors and a private markets investor focused on mobilising institutional capital for impact investments at scale.

Executive Director, African Climate Foundation

Saliem Fakir is the founder and Executive Director of the African Climate Foundation and a leading voice on climate policy and sustainable development in Africa.

James Grabert

Director, Mitigation Division, United Nations Climate Change Secretariat

Mr. Grabert has been working for the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC) for more than 25 years. He heads the Mitigation Division of the UNFCCC, leading the work on market-based approaches to climate change mitigation.

Andrew Johnstone is a co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Climate Fund Managers (CFM) and has overall responsibility for the delivery of the firm’s fund management services.

Ms. Nidhi Madan leads Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation’s Low-Carbon Pathways and Sub-National Climate Change Programmes and brings over 15 years of experience in climate policy, project planning, and knowledge management.

Kavita Sinha is Director of the Private Sector Facility at the Green Climate Fund, where she leads private-sector engagement and structures climate investments to scale emission-reducing solutions.
