Our Story

Since its launch in 2012 as the NAMA Facility, the Mitigation Action Facility has evolved into a leading multi-donor climate finance programme supporting transformational mitigation action across key sectors. From pioneering funding modalities to scaling innovative financial mechanisms, our journey reflects continuous learning, growth, and impact.

The Mitigation Action Facility has continuously evolved to respond to the changing global climate landscape. Originally established to pilot Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs), it has grown into a strategic instrument supporting the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Rather than funding isolated projects, the Mitigation Action Facility focuses on systemic and transformational change with strong country ownership. All supported initiatives are nationally endorsed and designed to unlock long-term mitigation impact across entire sectors.

Operating in an environment shaped by political shifts, economic crises, and global disruptions, the Mitigation Action Facility has demonstrated resilience and long-term commitment, enabling projects to withstand volatility while continuing to deliver climate impact.
